Posterous theme by Cory Watilo

"I'm proud that you were mine."

Billy Elliot is one of my favorite movies of all time. Not because it is the most groundbreaking, original, or thought-provoking film of all time, but because it hits very close to home.

I never had any inclination to be a dancer, but I very much am someone that most people would consider outside the norm. Whatever the norm is. And with that, you realize that people, including those closest to you, end up putting a condition in how they appreciate and love you.

Stuff That Matters

I recently watched the British mini-series, Sherlock. And I had forgotten how much I miss British, witty banter.

In the last episode, the following exchange occured between Holmes and Watson, and I loved it so much I had to share.

Holmes: Look, it doesn't matter to me who's Prime Minister or who's sleeping with who.
Watson: Or that the Earth goes around the Sun...
Holmes: Not that again. It's not important!
Watson: Not important?! It's primary school stuff. How can you not know that?!
Holmes: Well, if I ever did, I deleted it.
Watson: Deleted it?!
Holmes: Listen. [points to his head] This is my hard drive and it only makes sense to put things in there that are useful. Really useful. Ordinary people fill their heads with all kinds of rubbish. And that makes it hard to get to the stuff that matters. Do you see?
Watson: But it's the Solar System!
Holmes: What does that matter?! So we go 'round the sun. If we went 'round the moon or 'round and 'round the garden like a teddy bear it wouldn't make any difference!

How true. We fill our heads with too many things that are rubbish. Time to start cleaning up.

Modern Love

If they're done right, records
Should do seemingly opposing things.
On one hand, they transport you...
They drop you somewhere else
But, at the same time, they root
You deeper in yourself.

The way the songs are sequenced,
The artwork,
The arc of the records,
It's all part of the experience.

This record's a collection of
Stories about love
And how it exists now...
In a time where technology
And warp speed and instant
Gratification are the premium.

This record was made around the idea
Of opposing things smashed up
Against each other.
Working together.

Head vs. gut
Pristine vs. messy
Technology vs. heart
Computers vs. acoustic guitars

Modern love.

Louder Than a Bomb

Named after the largest youth poetry slam in the nation, this documentary delves into the lives of four individuals, and their high school teams, while preparing for the annual competition. Passion, talent, and determination drive them, and at the end of the road, they bare their souls in a roomful of their peers, and you can't help but feel emotional, touched, and downright inspired.

These high-schoolers have led such raw and difficult lives. They have been forced to carry with them crates of burden from the repercussions of broken families, abuse, lost friends, and tough neighborhoods. And when they finally express and let it all out with words, on paper and spoken, with stirring emotion, you will be affected.

Me versus The 2011 FFF (Part Deux)

So...the 20th Florida Film Festival is...oh whatever, you guys already know that part. Let's just get to the films!

Do you think *all* attempts at going green is awesome? Windfall is going to prove otherwise. What would you do if right next to you is a humongous fan that makes all sorts of "whomping" noise? Talk about good intentions going bad.

Then there's Illegal, which will be me if I don't get my papers in order before mid next year. Hee. How scary is that?
